Food and television are some of the most important things in the world. Food has been critical since the start of the world due to its delicious taste and importance to life. Conversely, television has been around for a much shorter time, which varies depending on where one lives, but has become a global phenomenon. Each of these things has other things that must be in place for their existence. For example, food has Food packaging and Corrugated Boxes, and television has sound systems and electricity. When food and television merge, they become one and all that’s left is pure magic and there are a few shows on TV today that demonstrate that excellent combination.
One of the programs that features food is Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel. The man who is the host of the show has had nearly every job in the restaurant industry, from dishwasher to food critic to cook. Adam Richman is the man’s name and on his show he goes from city to city eating completely ridiculous amounts of food. In every city that he travels to there is a challenge that awaits the host that entails him eating enough food to effectively last for days. For example, on one thirty minute segment a three pound steak stood in his way. Sometimes the host finishes these challenges and other times he doesn’t, hence the competitive nature and title of the show.
Furthermore, there is another show on the Travel Channel that, although less competitive in nature, features food. This second show is called No Reservations and has a man named Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain travels the world and arranges to see friends at the various locales to which he travels. During his globetrotting he finds time to sample all different kinds of local cuisine. When in Vietnam a plate of food was served up that, although it took a long time to translate, was eventually found out to be porcupine. Suffice to say the dishes served up on this show are not things that can be found at the local grocery store.
Finally, on the Food Network there was previously a show called Emeril Live. Emeril Lagasse is a world famous cook renowned for his creativity in the kitchen, which even has his own line of food products on sale at grocery stores across the nation. The show featured Emeril preparing some of his favorite foods and showing the audience how they could do the same at home. Emeril had a number of catchphrases on his show, including most notably where he would yell “Bam!” when putting an ingredient in a pot or kettle.
TV and food are two of the most vitally important things in the world, and that isn’t something that will become a fallacy any time soon. Because of the expanding importance and demand for media in global culture, in fact the popularity of television should only grow as time goes on. For food enthusiasts, this growth of television and media inclusion could be a great thing as more and more good chefs and industry experts share their opinions on food and allow every day people to emulate their culinary masterpieces.

It’s often said that we live in a society that has great fear surrounding it. “We have nothing to fear but fear itself” is the famous quote, but how often do we really listen to this message? While it’s of course important to keep ourselves safe and our families in good health, we can’t let fear get the best of us. It’s a great idea to make sure workplaces are safe, with fall protection and rail guard in place where they are needed, but when keeping our own notion of safety intact borders on becoming damaging to ourselves and others, we need to reconsider the kind of society we take part in.
The events of September 11 ultimately, made the largest effect on our perceived safety of the world. Terrorism was surely in existence, but it was not in the top of our minds. When the attacks occurred Al-Qaeda terrorists were quickly pointed to as the perpetrators of the violence, and retaliations were eagerly put in place by the Republican administration.
The response made by the Government of George Bush and Dick Cheney is one of the most controversial decisions since Vietnam. The decision to invade Iraq, a place where it was acknowledged Osama Bin Laden had no connection to, and the only seeming reason to invade was a large amount of oil stocks and a chance to engage in wider penetration through the Middle East, is one that was at first thought of as a conspiracy theory, but now is the majority view of the truth. There can be no doubt that the Obama campaign would have had little chance of success had the decisions of eight years of Bush’s reign not been so damaging to American security.
It’s here that we can note an interesting irony about fear and the desire for safety. While many supported Bush whole-heartedly as they thought this was best for our safety, the reality is that this giving into fear was what ultimately has made America a less safe country to be in, as the damage caused by the Iraq war to the global standing of America has been massive.
Today, there is another fear present in the world such as the fear of climate change and Earth warming. Is this fear valid? One of the major points of contrast between global warming and the fear of terrorism is that there is no real enemy to battle against when it comes to global warming. In fact, those who believe that climate change evidence is present; are less and less likely to trust their government. A belief in a widespread terrorism threat, though, leads us to look to support the power structure that is already in place.
In conclusion, we need to think deeply and properly about any aspect of our lives that brings fear out within us. By disconnecting ourselves momentarily from our panic, and looking dispassionately at the evidence involved, we can make an informed decision as to the kind of measures need to be taken to keep ourselves and our families safe.

As society continues to roll on, we can see things grow more and more complicated. While we are happy to think of these advancements as creating great things to help our world, the fact is much of the new technologies invented by scientists and engineers are only matters of convenience. Anything from a Paper towel dispenser to an automatic soap dispenser can greatly improve the speed at which we can get through our day to day activities, but how much more convenient will things actually get?
There’s a funny anecdote by a technology philosopher: He said that with today’s technologies in big screen televisions increasing to larger and larger sizes, we’ll soon get a life like screen that covers a whole wall. The next technological advancement after this will be the opportunity to see this image in 3D. Someday, we may actually be able to go through the wall and live life on the other side. Then as we can live in this super realistic arena, we’ll be able to watch TV!
The implication of this is that all our creations, while certainly amazing, are not enhancing our lives in creative ways. Imagine the number of scientists, engineers and professors it would have taken to develop widescreen televisions to the level they are now at. What would our world look like if they had spent this time making medicines, or something more valuable than our own amusement?

Wedding consultants are becoming more broadly used and are not just something that is hired by the wealthiest of brides to plan their weddings. Because so many brides are putting in long hours and busy with demanding careers, they simply don’t have the time to plan a wedding and all of the details that it takes in putting on a wedding on their own. The world joins together to watch and participate in the Olympics every four years. It is a time of excitement and stress, anxiety and anticipation, especially for those who are participating. Of course, what one sees happening at the Olympics is only the culmination of years of hard work, determination and skill. This is not overnight accomplishment, but the result of careful thought, planning and organization.
Find a good notebook and begin to write down the things you must accomplish before moving. Any time you have a thought, write it down in the notebook. Check off tasks as you complete them. You must keep good records when contacting people, paying particular attention to names, dates, time and phone numbers. If you run into any problems, you will know exactly who you talked to and you won’t have to start that process over again. Similarly, relocating to a new country is much like being an Olympic participant. The more time you spend preparing for your overseas relocation, the better chances you will have in having a successful, well-planned move. There are some important things to consider when relocating overseas that can help make the relocation easier. Although this may take more time, consider that just like the competitors in the Olympics spend untold hours in preparation and planning in order to win, you will want to take the time to be as prepared as possible.
First of all, you will want to spend some time researching your new country. There will be so many differences that you need to visit your library, search the internet, and talk to as many people as possible to learn as much as possible about you new country. You may also need to learn a new language. Many libraries have computer programs and DVD’s to help you learn a new language. Even though you will not be able to master the language, the earlier you start studying basic words and hearing it spoken, the quicker you will be able to converse with those in your new surroundings.
Next, remember that there are going to be specific laws and regulations in your new country regarding passports, visas, permits, vaccinations, taxes, and even your pets. You can find out what you need by calling the embassy or consulate of the country to ask what restrictions and regulations apply to foreigners moving into the country. You will want to file for your passports, permits and visas as soon as possible, as they can take a while to process. Also, be sure and check the expiration dates on all current passports, to make sure they are still valid. Leave nothing to chance, as you will not want any surprises as you are moving. As you prepare to relocate to a new country, be sure and collect any and all important legal documents. Right after you learn that you will be relocating, take the time to see what you have on hand and what you may need to get copies of. Included in this would be employment records, social security cards, birth certificates, and medical and dental records. Other important paperwork is academic records and diplomas, employment records, proof of residency and a living will and testament. Copies can be obtained for any of these items, but it may take months to receive them all. Take the time to contact the right people, keep good records.
Other important things to keep track of are prescription drugs, international driving permits, and the tax system in your new country. These are all things that require keeping good records that all need to be recorded in your notebook. Calling the right people, asking the right questions and following through on the required tasks will make the transition so much easier.
Your belongings, of course, are one of the most important aspects of moving. Rather you are moving to France or moving to New Zealand, you need to make sure you take extra care of your belongings during the move. Research this and find the best way to transport your items. Ocean freight shipping is considerably cheaper, but takes at least two months. This is true also if you are shipping car overseas.
Although this all may sound like a lot of hard work, it’s worth remembering that the better you prepare and keep good records, the better the entire experience will be. As with the Olympics, the day will finally arrive when you can finish the task, sit down and take a deep breath. It is then that you will be so thankful that you took the time to do things the right way.
