Disaster Preparation Tips
Anyone who knows about disaster preparation knows that those who are not fully prepared are the ones who don’t know the basic steps of shutting a home down safely and who don’t know how to use the various supplies in their disaster kits. If your preparation is limited to simply buying some items that are recommended to have on hand, then you need to take the time to educate yourselves further so that in an emergency you will be able to act calmly and confidently.
An important part of emergency preparation is to know basic first aid. If the building you are in collapsed, would you be able to effectively help those around you? Knowing basics about stopping blood flow, knowing when to move someone and when not to, and knowing how to administer CPR are just a few techniques that everyone should be reasonably versed in, so that they would be able to help someone in trouble.
A lot of disaster preparation can be done in your own home. There is a strong chance that you will be at home if a major situation occurs, and so you should know your living space. The most important step is being able to turn things off. Knowing where your fuse box is so you can turn off the electricity is a must, as is being able to turn off the gas. If there is a leak, then an explosion could occur, or people could be harmed by exposure to the fumes if they are trapped. Take the time to go through your home and learn how to turn these devices off.
